Details[]

The Makarov handgun is a semi-automatic pistol chambered for the 7.62x25 cartridge. It is the very first pistol you can obtain, but offers just enough protection against lynxes, rats, and snakes due to its low power.

It will eventually break if no maintenance is given

Quests[]

A Makarov handgun is required for the quest "A Mother's Request" starting at Note no.37 in the Searching for Truth main quest.

Obtaining[]

New game[]

  • At the beginning of the game, the player starts with a worn out pistol.

Looting[]

Assembling[]

You can no longer assemble Makarov handgun by yourself in the latest version of the game. However, you can use specialist in trading city to help you assemble it.

Perk Upgrades[]

The Makarov can be further enhanced by using either direct or indirect perks, where direct perks affect the weapon category and indirect perks affect the player.

Range Upgrade (Direct perk)[]

Pistol range perk gives an extra +1 to the total range.

Avenger (Direct perk)[]

Return fire once per turn with a pistol when attacked within the range of the pistol. This still costs the weapon durability and ammo.

Dual wield[]

Allows the player to create and use dual pistols. If the perk is removed, the player will not be able to use dual pistols anymore, even if the item still exists in the player's inventory.

Saving on weapons cost (Indirect perk)[]

Saving on weapons cost increases the durability of the weapon by lowering the cost per shot.

History[]

After World War II the Soviet army decided a new sidearm was to be adopted as with the introduction of the AK family of assault rifles, the M1895 Nagant revolver and the TT-33 pistols that were still widespread among the armed forces didn't suit their new role of self-defense weapons because of their heavyweight and bulkiness. The Soviet army decided that the new sidearm was to be a lightweight, cheap to manufacture and easy to maintain.

Designed by Nikolay Fyodorovich Makarov, the Makarov pistol along with the 9x18mm Makarov cartridge were adopted by the Soviet army as the official sidearm for their armed forces for its reliability and ease of use.

Manufactured at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, the gun entered service in 1951.

Trivia[]

  • On older versions, the Makarov used to be the second pistol available, being the handmade pistol the first one.
  • If you start a new game without the tutorial, the Makarov will be at 30% durability but, if the tutorial is played, the Makarov will be at 26% durability, This happens because the gun is used to kill 2 rats in the tutorial fight.
  • It used to use 9×18mm cartridges like it does in real life before the devs decided to lump all the pistol ammo types together for no reason.
